VERY LITTLE KNOWN FACT!

I don't think I've ever shared this (even with friends), but when I was a kid, I used to build miniatures--usually musical instruments, such as guitars, amps, keyboards, and drums (pictured here, circa 1984-85?), and a nightclub/concert stage to house them all on, (also pictured here, though mostly cropped).

Out of boredom, and the constant need to express myself creatively, I would spend a lot of time trying to create something from nothing (not unlike the way writing a song comes about), and literally build what I fantasized about.

For the drum kit, I'd collect various sizes of empty masking, duct, or electrical tape rolls for drums, add tape as heads, walk to the local hardware store in the center of Livingston, NJ to buy dowels (cymbal, mic., or keyboard stands), hobby paint, balsa wood, and thin sheet metal (creating cymbals I was satisfied was a frustrating process to get to my liking). Whatever items I could find around the house that I could repurpose for my pet project, I'd grab and try (empty thread spools and toilet paper rolls come to mind as those I'd tried, but did not use).

I didn't have any instructions, just whim, trial & error. I was passionate about it for a little while, and would really lose myself in the process. In fact, I'd forgotten all about it for a long while, 'til I came across this pic.
